Pote's Notes - May/Jun 2015

Dave Brady Sr., Potentate

The year is flying by and we are having a great time. The Mexican Riviera Cruise was successful and those who went had a great time. Upon our return we hosted the Knights of Columbus, showcasing the Irish Dancers, and what a wonderful evening. At our annual Nile Kids Easter Egg Hunt we hosted over 300 kids. It was followed by an Easter Brunch put on by catering.

The fun continues at Nile. Sunday May 3rd will be our Nile Spring Ceremonial. The program will begin at 8:30 a.m. with a breakfast at the Directors Staff Club House. Then at 10:00 a.m. the First Section will perform and at noon all are invited to the picnic area for a BBQ lunch. Cost for the lunch is $15.00 per person. Following lunch, the second Section will present its program and the ladies are invited to the main building for the program especially prepared for them.

On Sunday May 10th will be a Mother’s Day Brunch in the ballroom starting at 11:00 a.m. and going until 1:00 p.m. The cost of this event is $15.00 pp, kids 5 to 11 years of age are $7.00, and kids 4 and under are free.

Everyone loves a parade, and the parade season has started. Mark your calendars for the Irrigation Festival parade in Sequim on Saturday, May 9th. It starts at noon and is one of Washington’s largest parades. Next comes the “Ski to Sea” parade in Bellingham on May 23rd starting at noon.

Nobles, Wednesday May 13th will be Niles Stated Meeting for Nobles only. This will be a meeting that all Nile members should attend. It will be the presentation of Niles financial conditions and will include all the facts and figures relating to our current situation. This, Nobles, is your Shrine and I cannot stress the importance of this meeting. Please plan on attending.

Ladies, on Saturday May 16th will be Lady Karen Brady’s Luncheon and the theme is “My Favorite Things”. Social time at 11:30 a.m., followed by lunch at noon. Tickets are only $25.00 pp and the menu will include 3 choices: Three meat Lasagna, Basil Chicken or Vegetarian Fettuccini Alfredo. Call the Office to sign up and let us know your meal choice when you purchase your ticket. An added feature, the Alaska Cruise for two on Celebrity Cruise Line winner will be drawn and those present will be the first to know who the lucky winner is. Don’t have a ticket for the drawing, we still have a few left so call the Office and we can handle the process. The Cruise has a limit of 100 tickets only and it increases your chance of winning.

Continuing the fun times with Nile, on June 6th it will be the “Brady Bunch” dance so break out your 70’s outfits and join us for an evening of dancing and just plain fun. Even if you do not dress in 70’s outfits, we still want you to come. There will be a buffet meal with hamburgers, hot dogs and other 70’s dishes, so call the office and get your tickets.

And if not enough, the annual Nile evening at the Everett Aqua Sox Baseball game will be held at the Aqua Sox Stadium on Saturday, June 20th. The admission price is $22.00 pp and those 6 and under are $18.00. Included is an all you can eat BBQ held in the Coca-Cola Pavilion prior to the start of the game. Just call the Office to reserve your tickets; it is a fun day for all ages so make it a family affair.

Don’t stop there, Sunday June 28th, join Nile and the Ladies Oriental Shrine and Daughters of the Nile for a lunch, with entertainment provided by a Barbershop Quartet. It begins at 1:00 p.m. and will be a wonderful afternoon.

Now comes July, more parades and community fun. July 4th is the parade in Sedro Woolley. This is always a good time, so join in and make a day of it. The Nile Family Picnic will be held on Sunday 19th, starting at 11:00 a.m., featuring pony rides, face painting, balloons, games, and for the “big kids” a car show. Be a kid again. Next on the docket is the Nile Golf Ball Drop and it will be held on Sunday, July 26th for the benefit of Shriners Hospitals for Children and the tickets are only 5.00 per ticket and they are tax deductible. Balls will be dropped by a helicopter and there will be great prizes for the winners. Be a volunteer to sell these tickets, it’s for the kids. And rounding out the fun is Navy Days Golf, hosting the Navy ships in port for Seafair, all arranged annually by Noble Jerry Biddle, and invites you to play, be a caddy or volunteer to help. Nobles this event needs your support to show our service personnel our thanks for all they do.

And remember to support your local Shrine Club, that’s where “It is happening” lively meetings, active times and a chance to become involved in a positive way. This is YOUR Nile, be a part of the fun with the World’s greatest Philanthropy Shriners Hospitals for Children.

Yours in the Faith,

Illustrious Sir David M. Brady, Sr.
