Wow, we already have two parades under our belts La Connor and Sequim with Bellingham coming up at the end of May. A big “thank you” to the units that participated in both parades. It was especially good to see the mini trucks participate again. I enjoy the parades and it is especially rewarding as we walk along to hear the crowd acknowledge what we do for children.
Speaking about the Shriner kids and our hospitals, Nile should be very proud of what we have been able to do this year. Ten thousand dollars to the $100 Million Dollar Club that directly benefits the hospitals. This was accomplished through the Royal Order of the Rose program for your ladies. Then being able to step forward and give $100,000 dollars to the hospital emergency transportation fund.
We, as the Nile Shrine, will have one more opportunity to support our hospitals and have some fun along the way. The Aqua Sox baseball organization will donate $3 to the hospital for every ticket purchased through a special online portal for the Sunday, August 4th game against the Spokane team. This is the Shriners Kid Day event. The online portal will require a special code “ShrinerKids” and in addition to the donation, the tickets will sell for $10 for a discount from the regular $12 price. The portal will open June 3rd and we will be sending out more information before then as the online portal is set up. I am asking for all nobles to make sure and let friends and family know about this opportunity to have fun at a game and support the hospitals at the same time. Let your lodge brothers know, get the word to service organizations that you are a member of, and make sure and get your neighbors involved. I hope that we will be able to reach out to the community and see over 300 tickets sold through this effort.
I would like to make it clear that there are actually two AquaSox games scheduled. August 4th—Shriners Kid Day and then another on August 24th. This is the one that we typically attend for $24 per person and includes the BBQ lunch. See the back page for details.
I want to close my article with these few thoughts. We have brought in a number of new nobles and I am looking for that trend to continue. Let’s make sure that we reach out and include them in our clubs and units. Make them feel welcome and they will become active members. Finally, let’s all never forget the reason we joined the Nile and let’s continue to work together to have fun this year and to work to support what I believe is the greatest philanthropy in the world—our Shriners Hospitals for Children.
Yours in the faith,
Steven L. Dazey
